Every day, British Transport Police protects and polices more than 10,000 miles of track and over 3,000 railway stations, depots and transport hubs, helping millions of people travel safely across the network.

Our jurisdiction spans some of the UK's busiest and most complex transport systems, including the London Underground, Docklands Light Railway, Midland Metro, Croydon Tramlink, Sunderland Metro and Glasgow Subway. From major city terminals and international gateways to rural branch lines, no two days are ever the same.

Policing the railway presents unique challenges. Our officers respond to everything from safeguarding vulnerable people and tackling serious crime, to managing major incidents, preventing disruption and supporting national counter-terrorism operations. Working across force boundaries and networks, we play a vital role in keeping the country moving.
