Discover Policing with British Transport Police

At British Transport Police (BTP), we’re passionate about building a police force that truly reflects and serves our communities. Our Work Experience Programme is a unique opportunity for young people to step into the world of policing and explore the wide variety of roles that help keep Britain’s railways safe.

This exciting programme runs at various locations across the country and offers a behind-the-scenes look at life in the police.

What You’ll Experience

During your time with us, you’ll meet officers, staff, and volunteers from a range of specialist teams, including:

• Firearms officers
• Dog handlers
• Crime scene investigators
• Local policing teams
• Detectives
• Control room staff

You’ll hear real stories from investigations, see demonstrations of specialist equipment, and  take part in interactive sessions where you can share your ideas and learn more about how policing works.

What You’ll Gain

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, you must:

• Be aged 14–17 (if you’re 18 or over, check out our On Patrol scheme instead)
• Be in secondary school or college (university placements are not accepted)
• Be confident travelling independently between sites
• Use your personal email address when applying
